Wildcat Shoals Resort is located 11 miles downstream from Bull Shoals Dam in North central Arkansas.  The cold water released from the dam provides for ideal trout habitat.  Bull Shoals Dam has 8 electrical generators and depending on the number of generators operating can raise river water levels as much as 12ft to 14 ft.  It takes about 3 ˝ hours for the released water to get here from the dam.

The White River is one of the heaviest stocked trout rivers in the world.  Fish stocking by both the federal hatcheries and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission amounts to almost 1.5 million catchable rainbow trout each year.  (Average size is 11 inches)  Large numbers of brown and cutthroat trout are also stocked.  One of these stocking points is directly across from our resort at the Wildcat Shoals Public Access.

Catching brown trout up to 5 lbs is common and browns up to 10 lbs are numerous in the Wildcat Shoals area.  We generally hold several trout from 12lbs to 30lbs here too.  Just remember they didn’t get to be that size by being stupid.  Even if you fail to catch one of these monsters you’ll often see them in the clear water.

BANK AND WADE FISHING

On low water the White River is accessible using our gravel boat ramp.  The river in our area has either a gravel or solid rock bottom making wading easy.  Water temperature averages between 47° and 52° year round so bringing chest waders is advised.

Guests may also fish from our boat ramp area or off the dock.  Many youngsters catch their first fish off the dock while dad is getting the boat ready.  The crystal clear water of the White River allows you to spot fish from a long distance.

BOAT FISHING

We have ten 20 ft Jon boats available for customer use at our covered dock. With the exception of our economy rooms each cabin comes with the free use of a 20 ft Jon boat.  These fiberglass boats are the traditional watercraft of the White River and can accommodate up to 4 guests.  Each boat comes equipped with padded swivel seats, life jackets, paddle, throwable seat cushion, anchors, net and drag chain, all at no extra charge.

You are welcome to bring you own 8hp to 15hp motor for boat use.  Boat rentals without motors are $45/day or $35/half day. If you prefer, our 9.9hp motors can be rented for $80/day or $60/half day. Includes one tank of fuel a day.

GUIDED FISHING TRIPS

The best way to enjoy the ultimate White River fishing experience is to take a guided fishing trip with one of our knowledgeable, professional guides.  Sit back, relax and let the guide put you on the best fishing areas for the current conditions.  Catching 20 to 40 fish a day per boat is the norm.  Of course we only keep the legal limit or release fish per the customers wish.  If you keep fish the guide will clean and bag your catch for you.
